Choose VUNRO Grooming Scissors for a Named Task

Compare all five current options by shape, tooth arrangement, handling and the work you actually need.

A scissor choice begins with the work you need to perform safely and consistently. Straight, curved, thinning and chunking options offer different approaches. They are not a ladder from beginner to superior, and a specialist pair cannot replace preparation, visibility or appropriate training.

This guide compares all five current VUNRO scissor options checked on 2 October 2026. It is a buying guide for trained groomers and supervised learners, not a first lesson in cutting around a dog.

Name the job before choosing a shape

Describe the recurring task: a controlled line, a suitable rounded contour, a transition or selective fullness reduction. Identify what limits your present method. If the constraint is preparation or unsafe access, a different scissor may leave that constraint unchanged.

Include coat density and the dog's tolerance. A pair suited to one prepared section may be unsuitable for a low-density area or a moving dog. No product name makes out-of-sight cutting appropriate.

The five current choices

7.5-inch Precision Straight Scissors — 440C

Consider a straight edge where it suits the visible line and your trained working approach. A straight pair can serve several tasks, but its suitability depends on access and control rather than a universal rule.

7.5-inch Precision Curved Scissors — 440C

Consider the curve for contours you can present and assess safely. The shape does not automatically create a rounded finish; orientation, coat presentation and your method still determine the cut.

7-inch Precision Thinners — VG10

Consider controlled blending on a suitable section. The current product record identifies VG10; the legacy URL contains 440C. Do not infer a fixed removal percentage or repeat closures without releasing and reassessing the coat.

7.5-inch Precision Curved Thinners — CR9

Consider a curved toothed option for an appropriate blending task within your training. Its removal behaviour must be learned; a curve does not make it equivalent to the straight thinners.

7.5-inch Precision Curved Chunkers — CR9

Consider its distinct tooth arrangement for appropriate trained finishing work. Do not treat chunkers as a harmless eraser: visible access, conservative intervention and reassessment remain essential.

Judge fit and control

Assess whether you can maintain a controlled grip and working approach with the actual pair. Named length is one feature; hand fit, access and your task matter too. Do not assume a longer pair will improve speed or reduce fatigue for everyone.

Use a supported demonstration or supervised practice where available. Learn unfamiliar removal behaviour on appropriate practice material before making repeated corrections on a dog. Keep the skin and movement clear of the cutting area and reassess relaxed coat between interventions.

Read material claims carefully

The range names above record the current catalogue materials. A steel label alone does not prove an exact sharpening interval, life expectancy or universal cutting advantage. Ask for supported care and service instructions, and maintain records for your actual use.

Inspect and service the pair through an appropriate route. Do not compensate for a damaged or poorly functioning tool by adding force or repeated closures. Cleaning and disinfection do not establish that a pair is mechanically ready.

Buy the capability you need

A useful first selection may be smaller than the whole range. List the task beside each pair and compare with your existing kit. Distinguish a spare for a supported processing routine from a new finishing capability. Both need an actual purpose.

Include purchase, care, service and learning costs. If a claim rests on saved minutes, check whether those minutes reduce the full appointment time and can be used. A better finish or clearer access may be worthwhile without inventing additional appointments or profit.

Make the decision reviewable

After relevant use, record which task the pair served, the limits encountered and whether it added useful capability. Keep unsuccessful examples alongside successful ones. Retain or change your selection based on that experience, rather than treating a complete matching set as the goal.

The right pair is the one that supports controlled work for your actual dogs and briefs. It does not remove the need to stop, reassess or choose a different plan when welfare or access changes.

Sources and scope

The linked VUNRO records establish the current five-product selection and named materials. Lantra's styling standard supports task-appropriate equipment and competence. No comparative performance, fixed removal percentage, medical benefit or earnings claim is made.
